How it works
Compressing an image reduces its file size by adjusting JPEG quality — useful for speeding up a website, fitting under an upload size limit, or simply saving storage space on photos that don't need to be at full quality.
How to use it
- Choose your image — Any common image format works as the source.
- Set the quality level — Lower quality means a smaller file size.
- Download and compare — The size reduction is shown before you download.
Common questions
Why does this only output JPG files?
JPG's quality setting is what actually achieves size reduction — PNG is a lossless format without an equivalent quality dial, so meaningful compression specifically needs JPG output.
What's a good quality setting to start with?
Around 70% is usually a good balance between visible quality and file size — go lower for a smaller file, or higher if you notice visible quality loss.
Will this work on already-compressed JPGs?
Yes, though re-compressing an already-compressed JPG has diminishing returns — the biggest size reductions come from compressing high-quality originals or PNG screenshots.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool processes your file directly in your browser. It is never sent to a server, stored, or seen by anyone.
Is there a file size or daily limit?
No daily limit. Very large files (roughly 100MB+) may be slow since everything runs on your own device's memory rather than a server.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Every tool on this site is free and requires no sign-up.
